Bio. Bobby Bovell
Once in a blue moon an artist comes along who possess the exceptional talent, creative instincts and unique vision to carve out their own niche in the music industry. For Bobby Bovell this innovative greatness is in his DNA.
British-born, South London-bred Bobby Bovell is the eldest son of Diana and UK reggae music legend, Dennis Bovell. “Being the son of a music legend my teachers expected me to be a musical prodigy. So they signed me up to play every instrument. They soon discovered that, at age 11, I didn’t have my dad’s musical superpowers. But I definitely had his musical energy”. This musical energy has been poured into creating the Bobby Bovell sound that the versatile musician describes as “ecleKtic”.
As a teenager, Bobby Bovell toured the globe while working as the sound engineer for the Dennis Bovell Dub Band. Speaking of his experiences Bobby says, “I felt privileged to be able to travel and see my dad share the stage with artists like The Wailers, MC Solaar, The Roots, and Linton Kwesi Johnson”. When not on the road Bobby was at work with his father. “My dad gave me an invaluable education in the studio while he was writing, producing, and mixing for various artists from Wet, Wet, Wet to Alpha Blondy”. During this period Bobby also learned to play the trombone and later the guitar. While studying Performing Arts, Bobby discovered his love and talent for acting and has appeared on stage and screen. Along with his love of the arts Bobby found his passion for God.
